The Oak Forest Police Department’s Investigative Division along with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force have been conducting an investigation regarding the death of 54-year-old Edward Lewis of Elburn that occurred in the 15500 block of Long Avenue on Friday, May 23.
On Monday, May 26, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office has approved one felony count of first-degree murder against 30-year-old Michael Protho of Chicago in connection with the death of Edward Lewis. A detention hearing for Michael Protho is scheduled for today, May 27, at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
Members of the public are reminded that this arrest and complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
