Post from January 2018:
The Illinois Department of Transportation has notified the City of Oak Forest that 159th Street from Oak Avenue to Cicero in Oak Forest will be closed for at least 60 days starting April 2nd. IDOT will close the road to remove and replace a large culvert under road and intersection improvements. These improvements will include new double turning lanes on east bound 159th to north bound Cicero Avenue and a turn lane on east bound 159th to southbound Cicero. Once 159th Street is closed the traffic detour will be Cicero Avenue to 167th Street west to Harlem Avenue then north to 159th Street
The culvert will be replaced under both 159th Street and Cicero Avenue in the following stages.
Mid February - Start installing temporary traffic signals and utility relocation. This requires only day time closures.
April 2nd - Completed closure of 159th Street from Oak Avenue to Cicero. This closure is set for 60 days. Once 159th Street is completed, it will be reopened to all lanes of traffic.
June - Once 159th street is reopened Cicero Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction until the project completion which is estimated to be November 15th.
