Resolutions at City Council Meeting

There were two resolutions read and approved at the recent City Council meeting.

Bob Small Resolution

The first one is in recognition of Bob Small for his service to the City of Oak Forest.  Bob, a long-time resident of Oak Forest was part of the Emergency Management function in City government for many years.  In the late 1970's, Bob was named Coordinator of the newly-created Oak Forest Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA).  He worked with six mayors over the nearly 45 years that he spent directing Oak Forest's ESDA/EMA and had the valued assistance of many volunteer members of these organizations who have helped him assist the Fire and Police Departments in town, as well as in other communities to help protect citizens and their property.  He retired in 2020.

Maggie Crotty Resolution

The other resolution honored Maggie Crotty for all her years of service in Oak Forest.  Maggie was a long-time resident of Oak Forest and served our community well.  She was a board member of Arbor Park School District No. 145, Illinois House of Representative, Illinois State Senate and Bremen Township Supervisor.

Upon her passing in November 2020, her neighbors respectfully requested that Ellen Court be temporarily designated as Honorable Maggie Crotty Court, which was approved by the Oak Forest City Council.

Christmas Tree Removal

Christmas Tree Disposal

Homewood Disposal will dispose of your live Christmas tree at no extra charge.  Christmas tree removal is part of your curbside service.  Please put your tree out for removal on your regularly scheduled residential trash pickup day.  If the tree is taller than six feet, please cut it in half before you put it out.

We encourage you to dispose of your Christmas tree within first few weeks of January. Even a well watered tree will dry out eventually and can become a fire hazard. Start your new year off with a safe home.

Thank you

Snow Removal Reminders

Winter is here!  Please remember that the city prohibits residents from parking vehicles on city streets after 2 inches of snow has fallen to allow Public Works Department crew members to clear and salt the streets efficiently and effectively and

Vehicles must remain off streets for 12 hours after the end of snowfall or risk being fined and/or towed.

IMPORTANT!  Do not shovel or blow snow from driveways into the streets as this can cause a hazard and is also against city ordinance.  When snow is shoveled into the street, the plow is likely to push it right back in front of the driveway.  Although the city's plows may leave some snow across driveway entrances, they try to keep it to a minimum.  The Public Works Department will not remove snow from driveway entrances.

For more information, please read the Snow and Ice Control article on the city website.
