Public Works explains sensible salting, plowing system

In order to provide snow and ice control for 152-lane miles of city-maintained streets, the Public Works Department has stocked its salt building and readied its snow-fighting equipment.

With salt in short supply and high demand, the Public Works Department practices sensible salting. Sensible salting means the department will salt streets with hills or curves, all street intersections maintained by the city, and school zones. The salt and salt brine from these areas will be carried through the neighborhood streets by vehicles.
