Excessive Heat Alert - August 27, 2021

When temperatures in Cook County are expected to rise to unsafe levels, the Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security provides an updated list of cooling centers for residents who do not have access to air conditioning.


During hot weather, residents are reminded to:
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Try to stay in the shade or indoors as much as possible.
  • If working outside, take frequent breaks, preferably in an air-conditioned space.
  • Check on elderly neighbors and those with functional needs.
  • Take pets indoors and make sure they have plenty of water.
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

I Am An American Day

I Am An American Day Parade

The Oak Forest Veterans Commission will once again host the I Am An American Day Parade on Sunday, September 5th at 11:00 am on Central Avenue.

Local schools, churches, businesses, and community groups are invited to show their pride in being Americans by taking part in the parade.  Houses along Central are encouraged to decorate their houses and fences.

Registration forms are now available!  We hope you will join us by decorating your bikes, wagons, scooters, etc. for this family event on Sunday, September 5.

Road Construction

2021 Road Program

The Oak Forest City Council approved an award of contract to Iroquois Paving Corporation for the 2021 Road Program.  This work will began this week.

The contractor will notify all the residents a day before any work will be done to your apron or curb with a notice on your door.

Work will begin on Sayre Avenue and will proceed in order below. This year’s program will include the following twelve street segments to be resurfaced:

  1. Sayre Ave.: 155th Pl. to 156th Pl.
  2. Bramblewood Rd.: 155th Pl. to 156th Pl.
  3. Brianne Ln.: Victoria Dr. to Courtney Dr.
  4. Courtney Dr.: Pine Dr. to Brianne Ln.
  5. Rob Roy Dr.: 157th St. to Victoria Dr.
  6. Rob Roy Ct.: Rob Roy Dr. to End
  7. Rob Roy Dr.: 157th St. to 159th St.
  8. Brookwood Dr.: Arroyo Ct. to End
  9. Fairfax Rd.: Edward Dr. to Duncan Rd.
  10. Leclaire Ave.: 159th St. to 155th St.
  11. Roy St.: Richard Ave. to Henry St.
  12. Barton Ln.: Frontage Rd. to Barry Ln.

With outdoor construction work, the schedule of the contractor is weather dependent and may change weekly or daily.  Residents living on the streets listed above are advised to call Public Works at (708) 535-4090 if you have questions regarding the Road Rehabilitation Program.  The service request form is available, as well.

Senior Citizens Commission September Luncheon

The commission provides programming on the fourth Thursday of each month (except July, August and December) at 11 a.m. at the Oak Forest Park District Park Place at Central at 15601 Central Avenue.  Tickets are $5.00 each and include entertainment, lunch and cash bingo. Tickets are available at City Hall.

Senior Commission Overview

The Senior Citizens Commission offers information and assistance to seniors in the community. It promotes awareness of concerns pertaining to the city's senior population and provides policy direction pertaining to the community bus service. For additional information, please send an e-mail to the commission or call 708-687-4050, ext. 1607.

Oak Forest Community Bus

Community Bus

Free bus transportation is available to seniors (60 years or older) and disabled individuals, (18 years or older) who live in Oak Forest.  The bus will pick you up at home, bring you to your destination, and return you home.  What could be more convenient?  Weekday transportation is provided to grocery stores, medical appointments, drug stores, restaurants, hair appointments, Senior Commission luncheons, and Bremen Township senior activities. 


Registration

A one-time registration is required to use the bus. You may complete the registration form or contact the City Clerk's Office at 708-687-4050, ext. 1000 to receive a mailed form.

Operation Hours

The bus service operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Handicap Accessible

If a rider requires a wheelchair lift, he or she should call at least one day in advance to ensure that the bus is available. If the rider requires same-day service, the request will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. If space permits, disabled riders can travel with a companion or trained service animal.

Registered seniors can call 708-473-2925 to request routine rides and 708-535-4090 for rides to special events or medical appointments.
