Storm system to bring wintry mix to area
According to the National Weather Service, a potent storm system will bring a wintry mix to our area early Thursday morning, including at least a brief period of freezing rain. That will transition over to snow through the morning. Heavy rates of snowfall, in excess of one inch per hour, are possible Thursday afternoon into early evening. Winds will also be gusting upwards of 35 to 40 mph, which could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility.
As this storm system develops, please keep in mind:
- Reduced visibility as well as slippery and snow covered roads will make for a difficult commute on Thursday. Please allow extra time and drive carefully.
- No parking is allowed on city streets for 12 hours after 2 inches of snow has fallen. Please remove your vehicle to allow Public Works crews to effectively clear streets of snow. Violators will be ticketed or towed.
- Do not push snow from your driveway into the street. When clearing your driveway, it’s best to pile snow in your yard past the driveway in the direction of travel. Also, clear the fire hydrant near your home in case of an emergency.
