On Sunday, with lights and sirens blazing, the Oak Forest Fire Department delivered gifts to the Ward Family as part of Operation North Pole, a volunteer-based organization that works with Chicago hospitals to provide a day of fun and fantasy for families who have children battling life-threatening illnesses. The goal is to provide families an unforgettable experience amidst very challenging times.

Oak Forest High School students in Mr. Lipowski's Criminal Law class recently learned first-hand what it's like to walk in the shoes of a police officer during a use-of-force training seminar hosted by the Oak Forest Police Department. Standing in front of a floor-to-ceiling projector and armed with a gun loaded with a carbon dioxide cartridge, the students as well as Mr. Lipowski and Principal Brad Sikora reacted to different scenarios, such as a burglary in progress, shots fired in a store, and a traffic stop. They quickly learned how difficult it is to evaluate a potentially dangerous situation.

There’s no better way to experience the Forest Preserves in winter than by snowshoe. Come out to Camp Sullivan (snow conditions permitting) and try our snowshoes for free. Open to the public, no registration required. There must be at least 4? of hard snow on the ground in order to snowshoe. Call the campground at 312-636-0041 for snow conditions. If there isn’t enough snow, we’ll still be out with hikes, games, fire and other outdoor fun.
