City mourns the passing of John Stanly


The City of Oak Forest mourns the passing of John Stanly, who served 33 years with the Public Works Department before retiring in 2005. Stanly also served Oak Forest as a part-time firefighter, rising to the rank of lieutenant. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Best of luck to Oak Forest High School wrestling state qualifiers: Brenner, Kluk, Stump, Selers, Muselman, DeGroot, and Kirstin!  They will be competing in the IHSA Individual State Finals in Champaign this weekend.

City launches second year of marketing campaign


The City of Oak Forest once again is bringing its All Good Things Close to Home message to the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) bus and rail system.  The simple yet eye-catching posters and digital platform displays are designed to capture the interest of workers and employers in Chicago’s Loop as well as families traveling downtown.  The ads geared toward potential future home shoppers focus on recreation and transportation and encourage readers to visit LivingOakForest.com.

Oak Forest hosts Irish festival on March 4 


The Oak Forest-Crestwood Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Oak Forest will host the 8th Annual Oak Forest Fleadh on Saturday, March 4 on Cicero Avenue.  The Fleadh includes a 5K run/walk, an open streets event, a family parade, and a pub and restaurant open house. 

City Hall will be closed Saturday and Monday


City Hall will be closed tomorrow and Monday (Presidents' Day).  During non-business hours, please use the night deposit mail slot at City Hall, pay parking or ordinance tickets online or sign up for online water bill payments.  

Homewood Disposal Service is open on Monday.  Trash pickup will be on schedule next week.

Park District hosts free lacrosse clinic on February 19


The Oak Forest Park District is hosting a FREE LACROSSE CLINIC on February 19 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The free clinic reviews the basics of the sport and is ideal for kids in first through eighth grade whether they've played before or not. Everything will be provided, just come and have fun!

Don't miss Steve Cooper at the next senior lunch


Steve Cooper will bring his video/audio show of Big Band memories and vocalists to the February 23 senior lunch at the Community Center. Steve will introduce each clip with “behind the scenes” stories to make the clips even more enjoyable.  Ticket are available at City Hall for only $4 each.

If you are a cable television subscriber, you can view the Community Information Channel (CIC-TV) on Comcast channel 19, Wide Open West channel 6 and AT&T U-verse channel 99 to learn more about city programs and events.  If you do not subscribe to cable television, you can watch Committee of the Whole and City Council meetings online or check out the DVDs at Acorn Public Library.
