May 9 meeting
There was a lot of excitement at the May 9 City Council meeting as we welcomed newly-elected 4th Ward Alderman Paul Selman and bid farewell to outgoing 4th Ward Alderman Larry Schoenfeld (bottom, left). We also witnessed the swearing in of Mayor Kuspa (with family top, left), City Clerk Neuman (second row, right), Treasurer Kelly (second row, left), Alderman Simon (top, right), and Alderman Hortsman (bottom, right).  And, we were honored to have special guest Skylynn Grayer (bottom, second from left) sing the National Anthem and Mayor for the Day Hannah Breese and City Clerk for the Day Leah Chudinski help facilitate the meeting (bottom, second from right).  For more photos, please visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cityofoakforest/.

The McDonald’s at 5441 W. 159th Street will close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 14 as it begins a major remodeling project that is expected to be completed by mid-September. Once completed, the new restaurant (see rendering) will boast a side-by-side drive thru and a brand new dining room with state-of-the-art amenities.

Purchase parking tokens online


Commuters, did you know that you can purchase parking tokens online?  Tokens are sold in perforated sheets of 10 for $12.50.  Once purchased, tokens must be picked up at City Hall or the Police Department (after hours). Due to the city’s inability to track and/or confirm delivery, tokens cannot be mailed to your home. 

Deadline to appeal proposed assessed value is May 17


The deadline to appeal your proposed Tax Year 2017 assessed value is May 17. You can file an appeal online through the Cook County Assessor's website or by visiting the Markham office at 16501 S. Kedzie Avenue, Room 237. Although appeal forms are available at City Hall, all questions should be directed to Bremen Township Tax Department at 708-333-1591.

City Hall will be closed tomorrow.  During non-business hours, please use the night deposit mail slot at City Hall, pay parking or ordinance tickets online or sign up for online water bill payments.

The Wiseguys to appear at May senior luncheon


The Wiseguys will blend music and laughter with a trip down memory lane at the May 25 senior lunch at 11 a.m. at the Community Center. There also will be a ceremony honoring veterans. Please bring donations for the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno. Luncheon tickets are available at City Hall for only $4 each.

If you are a cable television subscriber, you can view the Community Information Channel (CIC-TV) on Comcast channel 19, Wide Open West channel 6 and AT&T U-verse channel 99 to learn more about city programs and events.  If you do not subscribe to cable television, you can watch Committee of the Whole and City Council meetings online or check out the DVDs at Acorn Public Library.
