Police department releases tobacco compliance survey results


The Oak Forest Police Department conducted the third and final round of the 2016-17 “Kids Can’t Buy Them Here” tobacco compliance surveys at various retailers during the afternoon hours of Wednesday, May 17th. Two businesses sold tobacco products to a minor under the age of 18.

Firefighters use buddy system to lift young spirits


LIVING OAK FOREST BLOG: Last year, a routine call to transport a child with cancer to the hospital led a crew of Oak Forest firefighters to wonder how they could have a greater impact on the lives of these young patients and their families.  Project Fire Buddies was the answer.  Learn how this heartwarming program is changing the lives of local kids facing cancer.

McDonald's plants
McDonald's, which closed its doors on Sunday in preparation for a major remodel allowed the City of Oak Forest to dig up the plants and shrubs in its landscaping to use in public spaces throughout town. Thank you to all of the volunteers who came out to help, especially members of the city's Streetscape Commission.

City Hall will be open tomorrow


City Hall will be open tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon.

City Council meets next week


The City Council will meet on Tuesday, May 23 at 8 p.m. for its regular meeting. Citizens are invited to attend the meeting and are welcome to participate at the designated time.

The Wiseguys to appear at May senior luncheon


The Wiseguys will blend music and laughter with a trip down memory lane at the May 25 senior lunch at 11 a.m. at the Community Center. There also will be a ceremony honoring veterans. Please bring donations for the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno. Luncheon tickets are available at City Hall for only $4 each. 

Low-cost rabies vaccine clinic coming to Crestwood


Cook County’s inaugural low-cost rabies vaccine clinic of 2017 will take place Tuesday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Southwest Ice Arena, 5550 W. 127th St., Crestwood. It is the first of more than 30 rabies vaccine clinics scheduled throughout suburban Cook County and Chicago.


Purchase parking tokens online


Commuters, did you know that you can purchase parking tokens online?  Tokens are sold in perforated sheets of 10 for $12.50.  Once purchased, tokens must be picked up at City Hall or the Police Department (after hours). Due to the city’s inability to track and/or confirm delivery, tokens cannot be mailed to your home.

If you are a cable television subscriber, you can view the Community Information Channel (CIC-TV) on Comcast channel 19, Wide Open West channel 6 and AT&T U-verse channel 99 to learn more about city programs and events.  If you do not subscribe to cable television, you can watch Committee of the Whole and City Council meetings online or check out the DVDs at Acorn Public Library.
