Eagle Scout Peter Akai

City Recognizes Eagle Scout
Peter Akai

At the City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 26, Mayor Kuspa and the Oak Forest City Council recognized the significant accomplishments of Peter Akai for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout; a goal sought by many, but achieved by few.

Peter Akai earned his Eagle Scout rank on May 16, 2018 after completing 27 merit badges needed to earn this rank. Akai is an alumni from Fierke Elementary School and Central Middle School, where he was a trombonist in the Symphonic Band. Earlier in 2018 he was awarded the American Legion award.

Akai was a member of the Oak Forest Cub Scout Pack 341 and later, Scout Troop 318. He was the first scout in the Chicagoland area to earn 2 SuperNOVA awards for STEM education and became the member of the Order of the Arrow, earning his Arrow of Light, in 2015.

In 2017 Akai led an Eagle Project to build a Little Free Library at Fierke Elementary School dedicated to the memory of former student Daniel Joost, with the help of the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and students.

Currently a member of the Orland Park Scout Troop 318, the Oak Forest Venturing Crew 22, and Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, Akai will attend Andrew High School this Fall.
