Veterans Commission hosts I Am An American Day Parade 


The Oak Forest Veterans Commission will host the 4th Annual I Am An American Day Parade on Sunday, September 6 at 11 a.m. on Central Avenue between 151st Street and 156th Street.  The patriotic parade will lead to the Oak Forest Park District’s Old Times Picnic – a fun-filled event for all ages that has become an Oak Forest tradition.

The Forest Preserves of Cook County invites residents from Oak Forest and across the county to celebrate the district’s 100th Anniversary in September. A week-long Centennial Celebration, 100 Years/100 Events kicks off Sunday, September 20 and continues daily through Sunday, September 27.

Administrators, teachers, counselors, parents and students are invited to nominate outstanding teachers currently teaching in full time at a public or non-public school. Nominations close January 5, 2016.

Commissioner Patlak's tax appeal seminar is August 26


Cook County Board of Review’s Commissioner Dan Patlak will answer questions about the property tax appeal process. Bremen Township will be open for property tax appeals from August 17 through September 15. Tax appeal forms will be available at the City Clerk's Office at City Hall after August 1. The forms must be completed and submitted by September 14.

Major track project to impact Rock Island line


As part of Metra’s continued efforts to maintain and improve the quality and reliability of its service, a major tie replacement and track resurfacing project will begin Monday, Aug. 17 on Metra’s Rock Island Line to Joliet. Riders should note that construction schedules will be in effect for midday and weekend trains.
