Oak Forest Decision on Recreational Cannabis Facilities

Public Hearing on November 6

On November 6, 2019, the Oak Forest Planning and Zoning Commission will consider zoning regulations for recreational cannabis facilities. This review is related to the recently passed Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act that legalizes the recreational use, retail sales, and production of cannabis by adults.

This new state law impacts all area communities and takes effect on January 1, 2020 with licenses for dispensaries anticipated to be awarded by the State of Illinois later in 2020. The City has been approached by businesses with interest in applying for state licenses to operate cannabis dispensaries in Oak Forest. In response, the City is seeking to proactively draft land use regulations that govern where in the City’s commercial and industrial districts these facilities can locate.

The Mayor and City Council invite interested residents to attend this public hearing on Wednesday, November 6th at 7pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Any questions about this meeting or potential regulations can be directed to Paul Ruane, Community Planner for Oak Forest at 708.444.4848 or at pruane@oak-forest.org.
